Always striving for simplicity and excellence, we are on a continuous search for innovations and ideas that make railcar leasing easier for you.
Our team works to continuously improve our service offering in small ways such as placing QR codes on railcars to help users in the field or in large ways: We are heavily invested in making Digital and Automated Coupling (DAC) a reality across the industry and are digitizing our railcar maintenance workshops across Europe.
DAC aims to bring efficient, competitive, and transparent rail freight transport in Europe. GATX is actively involved in the European DAC Delivery Programme (EDDP). The race is on! A uniform and automated system of wagon couplings throughout Europe is expected to increase freight transport efficiency and reduce the time needed to assemble trains.
We are creating a digitalized process aimed to meaningfully speed up our response time to your request with an accurate and tailored quotation. This initiative intends to address a key customer demand learned from our customer survey results. This is one of many activities underway to enhance the customer experience.
Innovative ideas popup every day, but what are the best solutions that meet your needs while preserving our commitment to safety and reliability? We are taking a collaborative path on innovation by working with our customers to select best-in-class ideas like sensors and making telematics solutions flexible, maintenance-free, and easy to integrate.
We have a dedicated team that secures railcar and tank container availability through continuous investments. Some of the recent initiatives taken to help ensure we have the right assets available for you at the right time include GATX’s acquisition of Trifleet, the fourth largest tank container lessor, building an intermodal railcar fleet of more than 1,100 units in less than 5 years, and adding 17 new freight car types to our fleet in the prior 5 years.
With in-house maintenance workshops and a large network of partner maintenance workshops, we have been taking important steps toward digitalizing workflows. For example, we have been introducing the digital workshop portal in our shop network. The portal allows for standardized digital messaging between the workshops and wagon keepers. It improves data input and exchange, allowing for speech to text commands. It eliminates the need for handwritten notes as all maintenance steps taken are registered with electronic devices.
