The online portal for easy train assembly – On behalf of the UIP, and under the leadership of GATX, the Rolling Stock Reference Database (RSRD²) has become the European Union’s leading online portal for rolling stock reference and wagon performance data.
So far, 83 private wagon keepers, plus Lineas and SBB Cargo, have entered the latest data for 215,000 tank and freight wagons. This growing database already serves 400 companies and processes up to 10 million inquiries per month.
“We believe that if all of us work together, we will strengthen the entire railway sector. That is why we have made sure that the database is available to everyone, free of charge (at https://www.rsrd2.eu/). We are making railcar leasing easier and making safe wagon assembly possible,” said Johann Feindert, Chief Executive Officer at GATX Rail Europe and president of the RSRD asbl. According to Jörg Nowaczyk, Chief Commerical Officer at GATX Rail Europe, “All of our customers can access the latest railcar data at any time. Also, we have an interface so that your IT systems, from asset management to disposition or web portals, can integrate seamlessly.”
All railway undertakings use the portal to find all relevant data for train assembly, which is especially useful when tasked with sorting items of rolling stock into complete trains. Beyond that, more and more maintenance workshops are using the database to optimize and digitize maintenance workflows.
Integration with RSRD² is also only one of the parts of our TAF-TSI platform, in addition to technical data of our wagons we are supporting our customers incl. Railway Undertakings (RUs) to fulfill their obligations against TAF TSI. By providing telematics data in easy way customers/RUs can automate their TAF-TSI communication with infrastructure managers, wagon keepers and other RUs that take part in the transportation process. Messages that were in the past triggered manually during hand over or border crossing can be fully automated by GPS and TAF-TSI data provided by GATX. We strongly believe that only in such automated and fully digital way we can overall improve rail freight transportation processes over Europe.
