A longstanding and valued customer of GRE, BP Europe SE (BP) has been leasing GRE tank railcars for over 25 years to transport fuels and lubricants across Europe. “GATX Rail Europe is a key partner in our portfolio and essentially helps us by providing good service and high-quality railcars. GATX covers our needs for tank cars and offers us highly customer-focused support”, says Torben Knief, Rail Operations Manager NW Europe, BP Europe SE.

For the first time, BP has partnered with GRE for freight cars: 45 new Tamns railcars with a swivel roof system. , “We’re delighted to see our partnership growing and evolving with our customer’s needs,” said Elisabeth Jilli, Business Unit Manager at GRE, as she explains how this project evolved from testing an idea in 2018, to customizing railcar designs in 2019, and finalizing an agreement. These customized Tamns railcars were delivered to a satisfied customer a few months ago.

“Our Tamns railcars are equipped with an innovative, robust steel swivel roof which can be unfolded to the side at the push of a button to free up the full opening width. Thanks to the new roof construction, which we developed together with Adler Rail, there are less fall out rates because the classic weak point of other Tamns cars – the tarpaulin – has been completely eliminated,” says Mario Reinke, Key Account Manager at GRE. Beyond that, the GRE TAMNS cars for BP Europe SE are bigger and have a higher payload compared to ordinary Tamns cars with tarpaulin roofs. Overall, these features allow BP to save on un/loading time and costs from the added capacity.
