In the 1950s, 50% of all goods transported in France were moved by rail… today it is a mere 9%.

This is why France’s major freight players (Fret SNCF, Euro Cargo Rail (Deutsche Bahn), VFLI (SNCF), Europorte and Lineas) have united to initiate the 4F alliance “Fret Ferroviaire Français du Futur”. 4F has aligned on a strategy to revive France’s rail freight transport sector. It has presented its plan “France Relance” to double the share of goods transported by rail. In turn, the French government has promised to invest 5 billion Euros into the rail system (funding of passenger and freight transport by rail) over the next two years and 6 billion Euros more into infrastructure projects (public transport and the bicycle in cities).

France is the oldest railway market in Europe. So GATX Rail France, established in 2014, really is a new player. As a result, we thought it just makes sense to introduce you to (y)our GATX French team.
