Düsseldorf/Cologne. For the GATX Rail Germany team, lightweight rower Jonathan Rommelmann silvered the scholarship program with his Olympic medal.
Jonathan Rommelmann and his boat partner Jason Osborne won the first medal for German lightweight rowers at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. After his athletic achievement, the 26-year-old wants his doctorate next. Jonathan is studying human medicine at Heinrich Heine University (HHU) in Düsseldorf – in 2020/21 supported by a Germany scholarship made possible by his good academic performance and his scholarship sponsors GATX Rail Germany and Sportstiftung NRW.
GATX Rail Germany is already a sponsoring partner in the Deutschlandstipendien program for the second year. With a scholarship, universities support special personal achievements and people who overcome hurdles in their biography. The combination of studies and top-class sport is one of them.
“Our team cheers along every time our scholarship holders compete, and we are delighted to be supporting two young sports talents together with Sportstiftung NRW again this year,” says Andreas Werle, Key Account Manager at GATX Rail Germany, who initiated the collaboration. “Supporting athletes who want to advance their studies at the same time is very important to us. This ensures a successful athletic and professional career. We support young talents.”
