GATX Rail Europe is pleased to welcome Thomas Zement as a new customer. Following in-depth consultations and a structured evaluation process, the company has signed a multi-year leasing agreement for Uacs 8063 and 8069 powder railcars. The first railcar has just been handed over to Thomas Zement’s facility in Karsdorf, Germany as part of a test phase.
A Flexible Solution for a Growing Business
Thomas Zement contacted GATX Rail Europe looking for a leasing partner that could provide both high-quality railcars and operational flexibility. To ensure a seamless integration, the first railcar will be used to assess compatibility with existing loading infrastructure and to train staff before the full fleet deployment.
“We’re delighted to support Thomas Zement with our powder railcars, providing a flexible and sustainable transport solution,” says Adrian Scheffler, Sales Manager at GATX Rail Europe. “Starting with a test phase ensures the best possible setup for their operations.”
Optimizing Transport Efficiency
The leased railcars will transport cement from Karsdorf, Germany to Poland, with a key efficiency advantage—on the return journey, a portion of the railcars will be loaded with cement dust, a material used in cement production back in Karsdorf. This setup reduces empty runs, optimizing costs and minimizing environmental impact.
More powder railcars will follow in the coming months as Thomas Zement integrates rail into its logistics strategy. If you are looking to integrate rail logistics into your transport strategy, contact us or browse our high-quality railcar fleet.
