The Rail Safety Days took place in the Marl Chemical Industrial Park in October. Here specific knowledge concerning safety and the handling of equipment was conveyed to individuals who deal with rail tank wagons and tank containers every day. Naturally, GATX had to be there.
Safety is the priority – in the loading of different goods and substances as well as with their transportation and unloading. Because we all carry responsibility for people and the environment. The Marl Chemical Industrial Park with its more than 100 production plants was the optimum environment for the Rail Safety Days which are held regularly in close cooperation between the railway subsidiary, DB Cargo BTT and a partner of the chemical industry, this year with Evonik Industries AG.
New findings from a look at the inside
Training was given in the practice-related handling of wagon technology on three GATX wagons. The more than 300 participants, who were divided into 40 group training sessions each lasting 45 minutes, were taught everything there is to know about the operating functions and were able to refresh their specialist know-how. Especially the look at the internal workings of the valves, which is not normally possible, provided insights even to the “old hands” and a lively discussion between the employees on site and the experts from GATX developed. Thus we learned a lot from each other!
Johann Feindert, COO of GATX Rail Europe adds: The protection of people and the environment is on the top of the GATX list of priorities. That’s why feedback and the exchanges between the wagon leasing companies and the users is so important. In the end, we learn so many details from the daily work routine and are able to further optimize the handling of the wagons in a continuous process. Because when dealing with hazardous goods safety is the top priority!”
