Rail transportation is all about efficiency, safety, and having the right railcar for the job. At GATX Rail Europe, we offer one of the most diverse and modern fleets in the industry. But what exactly can you lease with us? Let’s break it down.
A Railcar for Every Need
With over 30,000 railcars across Europe, we provide tailored solutions for nearly every type of freight. Our fleet is designed to ensure seamless transportation for liquids, gases, bulk goods, intermodal cargo, and much more.
Tank Railcars
For the safe and efficient transportation of liquids and gases, our tank railcars come in various configurations:
• Chemical Railcars: Ideal for organic and inorganic chemicals, ensuring the highest safety standards, this includes all Zans, Zacs, Zacens and more variants thereof, depending on the product requirements.
• Oil & Petrochemical Railcars: Specifically designed for crude oil, refined products, and other petrochemical cargo, these railcars share similarities with chemical railcars but are optimized for the unique demands of the oil and petrochemical industries. One of the most popular choices in this category is our jumbo railcar, the Zans/Zacns. Due to its high demand, we recently introduced a second-generation model, enhancing its efficiency and reliability.
• Pressure Gas Railcars: Equipped for liquefied gases, these railcars feature different capacities and safety enhancements, wagon types include Zagkks, Zags and Zagns. These railcars come in multiple sizes and pressure ratings to accommodate a variety of liquefied gases such as propane, butane, light carbohydrate fractions, propylene, butadiene, cooling gas mixtures, and others. They are designed with advanced safety features such as reinforced tanks, thermal insulation, and specialized valve systems to ensure secure transportation under high pressure.
• Powder Railcars: Designed for powdered or pourable products such as cement and lime, ensuring controlled unloading, wagon types include Uacs / Uacns. These railcars are equipped with state-of-the-art pneumatic emptying systems and can carry a volume of up to 128 m³.
Freight Railcars
For solid and bulk goods, our freight railcars offer reliability and efficiency:
• Open Top Railcars: Perfect for transporting non-moisture sensitive bulk commodities, this includes all e-railcars and, for moisture sensitive goods, our Tamns with a swiveling roof.
• Flat Railcars: The go-to choice for timber, steel, cars, and heavy or large goods. This railcar category includes a variety of different wagon types, ranging from Rens, Slnps and Snps, to Laaers and Shimmns. Each of these wagon types is built for the most efficient transportation of specific products – for example: the Laaers for passenger cars or SUVs, the Slnps for railway sleepers, and the Shimmns for steel coils.
• Hopper Railcars: Ideal for transporting bulk commodities like coal, gravel, grain, and other food products with easy unloading capabilities, wagon types include Falns, Faccns and Tagnpps.
Intermodal Railcars
As supply chains become increasingly multimodal, our intermodal railcars provide the flexibility to transport containers, swap bodies, and semi-trailers across rail networks, including wagon types such as Sgns, Smmps, Sggns and the well-known T3000 or Sdggmrss, the six-axle double pocket railcar.
ISO Tank Containers
For customers needing a multimodal solution, our ISO tank containers offer an efficient and safe way to transport bulk liquids and gases by rail, road, or sea on our intermodal railcars. These tanks, ranging from standard tanks to cryogenic and other specialty tanks are leased by out sister company, Trifleet. In combination with our intermodal railcars, we can offer combined solutions that allow the safe and easy transportation of a wide range of goods in tanks, including new energies such as LNG or CO2.
