At GATX, we ensure the quality of our services and products by investing in our employees’ training. True to our values, we treat our colleagues as the backbone to our success and we make sure that our professionals stay on track with the latest developments in railcar technology. This is why our team wrapped up a three-day tank car training session with Rail Training in April.
Deepening Tank Car Knowledge
Thanks to the trainers, we are one hundred percent up to speed on a multitude of concepts. Julian Madsen, Strategy and Sales Development Manager Europe, said, “Following the organization’s new market-oriented sales approach, such training is essential as it provides employees with the opportunity to learn and deepen their professional competence.”
The result was a warmly received triumph. Assessment participant Ole Eberhardt greatly appreciated the “informative sessions’ clear and direct reference to everyday work, alongside the opportunity to directly interact with colleagues from other GATX sites. Such training has a real added value to our daily business.”
The Training Sessions
Our team was divided in several working groups and covered key theoretical aspects, such as the correct use of valves and other equipment parts, the avoidance of incorrect operations and malfunctions, sealing technology, derailment detectors, different ways to perform various fittings, and over-buffering protection. But theory is nothing without practice. We also held a practical knowledge session on tank railcar topics, including the practical handling of fittings, a demonstration of various components on the training tank car, function of derailment detectors, instructions for the safe operation of the equipment parts, and crash buffers. New GATX Rail Europe employee, Romana Mucherl praised the course’s multiple learning facets. “Covering not only the theory and presented by an experienced professional in the field, but the training also offered the opportunity to immediately apply what we had learned on a training vehicle – giving us the real experience,” Romana said.
