UIC 530-1 – Variant 1
This support for the DAC coupling head is a crossbeam support and is more common for vehicles built in Western Europe.

The photo below shows the second UIC option, which is a strut support. It is more common for vehicles that were built in Eastern Europe, but none of the tested versions of DAC use this kind of support.
DAC with Integrated Height Support
The latest DAC prototypes that are currently being tested also come with a third variant. In this case, there is no external support for the coupling head as the support is provided directly by the DAC spring damper (includes both an anti-rotation device and height support).

In the future, DAC should have a unified coupler head including both electric (110 V and data) and pneumatic connections. Additionally, the spring damper should fit into the standard UIC 530-1 pocket. However, it might also be possible to use other spring damper solutions for special car types or to fulfill additional requirements including crash elements. The connection between the coupler head and the spring damper has to be unified as well.
We continue to support this initiative with our active participation and we are convinced that the DAC will make railcar leasing easier for all. If you would like to know more about the DAC, please contact your GRE representative or follow us on LinkedIn for regular DAC updates.
