In an era where the importance of skilled professionals in the railway industry is undeniable, GATX Rail Europe is taking an important step towards nurturing young talent. We’ve launched an ambitious apprenticeship program aimed at educating office management assistants and industrial management assistants in Germany and Austria. Our well-rounded program spans over three years, during which participants rotate through departments and even get a chance to spend some time abroad at one of our GATX Rail Europe offices.
Students that have completed their mandatory years of schooling have the unique opportunity to embark on a rewarding career journey together with us, making #railcarleasingeasier and strengthening the greenest and most sustainable transport mode in Europe.
Cultivating the Future Workforce
With a strong commitment to investing in the next generation of professionals, GATX Rail Europe provides aspiring individuals with the tools, knowledge, and skills they need to thrive as future employees in our Sales and Technical teams. At GATX, we recognize that our apprenticeship program is a crucial bridge between education and employment. The teams hosting our apprentices allow them to gain hands-on experience to develop a strong foundation for their careers.
“Our apprenticeship program is not just about imparting technical skills; it’s also about nurturing a passion for the industry. We aim to provide a broad learning experience that equips students with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in their chosen field,” states Veith Widmann, Head of HR Europe at GATX Rail Europe.
Mentorship is a key element of the program. Students are paired with experienced professionals who are certified apprentice trainers. Each mentor will guide and support their apprentice throughout their journey. Talents and special interests of each apprentice are considered, and GATX Rail Europe offers additional trainings and courses to its apprentices if those are useful for their apprenticeship.
A limited opportunity
With the program’s commitment to quality over quantity, GATX Rail Europe selected only four students this year for this prestigious opportunity—two in Vienna, one in Düsseldorf, and one in Hamburg. This selective approach ensures that each apprentice receives the attention and resources they need to excel.
